MotoRadds vs. POV Mounts: The Real Cost of Buying a Chin Mount from Italy [2026]

POV Mounts is the most interesting new thing in this category. Two guys in Catania, Sicily — Matteo and Mario — 3D-scanning helmets, designing mounts in CAD, test-fitting every one on the real shell, and hand-finishing the parts themselves. Over 500 helmet models across 70+ brands, in six colours, with a signed manifesto on their website dated 22 May 2023. It's a genuinely lovely small operation and we'd rather compete with them than with another anonymous marketplace listing.

But this comparison has an unusual centre of gravity, and it isn't the mount. It's the Atlantic.

If you're reading this from the United States — which most of our readers are — the question isn't really "which mount is better." It's what a €32.95 mount actually costs by the time it reaches your door, how long that takes, what happens if it doesn't fit, and whose warranty you're relying on. Those answers changed in 2025 and 2026, and they changed against the small European seller.

If you're reading this from Europe, the geography argument mostly disappears — we ship EU orders from Czechia, so both of us are EU-domestic for you — and the comparison comes down to a straight trade: they've pre-scanned 500 helmets, we make one mount that bends to nearly all of them. We'll flag which is which as we go.

We make one of these products. Everything below is linked to a primary source, including the parts that don't flatter us.

TL;DR

Short answer: POV Mounts makes a good product, and on the 500-odd helmets they've scanned individually, a moulded part fits flusher than one you shape yourself. Our FLEX Slim goes the other way: one moldable mount that fits nearly every helmet on the market rather than a list of them. For a US rider, the landed cost, the transit time, the return path and the warranty framing all argue for buying domestically — and none of those are criticisms of the mount itself. For an EU rider, the customs and shipping arguments cancel out, since we fulfil EU orders from Czechia, and it becomes a straight trade between their pre-moulded per-model fit and our moldable universal one — with a longer warranty on our side.

A note for readers outside the US. POV Mounts, honestly

Their process page is one of the better pieces of manufacturer writing in this category. They 3D-scan the helmet — capturing air vents and modular mechanisms, not just the outer shell — design in CAD, then physically test-fit on the real helmet to confirm the mount doesn't interfere with the chin guard. Their Italian quality policy says "Ogni supporto è realizzato a mano, in Italia" — each mount is handmade, in Italy. The English version puts it as: "We make every mount by hand, here in Italy, scanning each helmet so the fit is exact." It's signed by both founders.

Catalogue: 500+ helmets across 70+ brands, with model-year splits where shells changed. AGV has eleven entries. Shoei has twelve. Coverage extends across street, ADV, MX and bicycle: Arai, Bell, Scorpion, HJC, LS2, Nolan, Airoh, Caberg, Alpinestars, Fox, 100%, Ruroc, Shark, Suomy, Premier, Nexx, Dainese, Ducati, BMW, Abus, Bluegrass, Endura, Fly Racing, FXR, Icon, IXS, Just1, Biltwell. There's also a "request yours" form for unlisted helmets.

What POV Mounts genuinely does better

Model-specific depth. They've scanned and modelled 500+ individual helmets, with genuine model-year granularity — "FOX RAMPAGE (2024-2025)" as its own SKU, separate entries for AGV K3 E2206 versus K3 SV. Our own model-specific FLEX range is smaller than that. If you specifically want a part moulded to your exact shell rather than one you shape yourself, and yours is on their list, they've done that work and we may not have.

They specify their adhesive, and we don't. This is the point where they beat us on transparency and we're going to say so. Their install guide names 3M VHB 4991F with 3M Primer 94. We say "genuine 3M VHB" and don't publish the grade. Theirs is the better disclosure and we should match it.

Scanning that accounts for vents and modular mechanisms. Designing around a helmet's actual hardware rather than over it is the right way to do a model-specific mount.

Colour options. Six finishes — black, white, silver, red, blue, orange — where most of the category is black only. Colours are made to order, which adds lead time.

A quick-release buckle with a built-in vibration damper. Nice detail, and it addresses the "unscrewing the camera every time" complaint that every screw-down mount attracts, ours included.

A fit guarantee with teeth, in principle. If the mount doesn't fit, they commit to revising it until you're satisfied or refunding you in full. From a two-person shop that designs its own parts, "we'll revise the mount" is a credible offer in a way it wouldn't be from a large manufacturer.

Service recovery shows up repeatedly in their reviews. Several Trustpilot reviews are specifically about problems being fixed by hand — "Voglio ringraziare il team per la disponibilità" ("I want to thank the team for their helpfulness"). Their profile claims a 100% reply rate to negative reviews within 24 hours.

Real customer praise for the product itself. "Uso i supporti di povmounts da quasi 1 mese per registrare video in moto e non ho mai avuto problemi" — a month of riding with no issues, stable at speed, easy install. "Alles super funktioniert" on an HJC RPHA 70. "Solid, clean and perfect for motorcycle POV."

Where POV Mounts falls down — mostly, for Americans

Customs is now the dominant cost, and it isn't close. The US $800 de minimis exemption was suspended globally on 29 August 2025, and the transitional flat-rate option for postal shipments ended 28 February 2026. As of this writing, imports require formal customs entry and ad-valorem duty on declared value regardless of how small the order is, plus the carrier's brokerage or disbursement fee. POV Mounts' own shipping policy puts this squarely on you: "Customs and VAT fees may apply to orders from non-EU countries and are not covered by POV Mounts," and "failure to pay outstanding Duties & Taxes may result in shipment destruction, making you ineligible for a refund." Their "ZERO EU CUSTOMS FEES" badge — which appears across the homepage, cart and product pages — applies only to EU buyers. (Trade rules move quickly; verify current US import rules before ordering from any overseas seller.)

Their US shipping cost isn't published at all. No carriers, no zones, no rates, no free-shipping threshold — the cart just says "calculated at checkout." One European customer complained about paying €10 for delivery within the EU; a transatlantic rate will be higher. You find out the real number at the last step.

Ask about VAT before you order. POV's EUR prices are stated tax-inclusive, and Italy's standard VAT is 22%. Many Shopify stores strip VAT for non-EU destinations at checkout and many don't. We couldn't confirm which without completing an order, so this isn't a finding — it's a question worth emailing them before you buy, because on a $38 part the answer is worth $8.

The realistic landed cost. A $38 sticker plus international shipping plus duty plus brokerage lands somewhere around $55–75 for most US buyers. Against a $34.95 mount shipped domestically, the sticker-price comparison is misleading.

Transit is 1–3 weeks and not guaranteed. Their policy publishes no US transit estimate and states that "all delivery times provided are estimates and cannot be guaranteed." Data points from their reviews: eight days to Sweden, two weeks to France. Colour variants are made to order, which adds more.

Returning it means shipping to Sicily. 30 days, unused and uninstalled, buyer pays postage to Palagonia, CT, Italy. International return postage on a $38 item will often exceed a third of its value. And since the mount is applied with VHB and can't be repositioned once pressed, "test fit and return" isn't a real option. Non-EU returns also carry customs and brokerage charges back to you.

Damage claims close in 10 days. Defects and shipping damage must be reported within ten days of delivery — a tight window on a package that took two weeks to arrive and which you may not have installed yet.

The warranty is written for Europe. The homepage says "All our products are covered under European warranty." That's the EU's statutory two-year conformity guarantee. There's no separate warranty document, no warranty page in the sitemap, and no statement of how it's honoured for a buyer outside the EU or who pays international freight on a claim. Two years is genuinely better than most one-year policies — if it applies to you. For a US buyer, that's unresolved.

They don't publish what the mount is made of. We checked the homepage, process page, quality policy in both languages, install guide, product pages and the raw product feed. There's no material statement anywhere — no polymer, no manufacturing process, no temperature or UV rating. They specify the adhesive down to the grade and primer and the mount itself not at all, which is an odd asymmetry and a fair thing to email them about before you bond one to a helmet.

A bare mount isn't a complete kit. Camera buckles and adaptors are sold separately. One reviewer who called them "the best on the market" still flagged that you have to buy the adaptors — realistically the €19.95 CAPTURE Pack on top, taking a US order past $60 before shipping and duty.

There's almost no independent evidence they last. This is the one that matters most for a durability-critical part. We found no Reddit threads, no ADVrider discussion, no third-party YouTube reviews, and no press coverage in English. Their Trustpilot profile runs to roughly 40–60 reviews, mostly Italian, German, Spanish, Swedish and Polish — too small a sample to lean on. Their homepage advertises a rating from 1,147 reviews, but that's a self-hosted on-site widget rather than independent verification, and it's 20–50× the Trustpilot volume. For a company launched in 2024, nobody has yet ridden one of these for three years and reported back.

The one critical review is worth reading. A one-star reviewer objected to waiting two weeks for a small package, paying €10 delivery on it, and to the finish quality relative to the price. One review isn't a pattern, and the company replied to it. But it raises exactly the two questions a careful buyer would: how long, and is the finish worth the money.

Best for: riders who specifically want a part pre-moulded to their exact shell, whose helmet is one of the 500 they've scanned, who want a specific colour, and who value that per-model fit over warranty length. Also for US riders whose helmet they cover and nobody else does, and who are relaxed about lead time and landed cost.

MotoRadds, honestly

We've been making motorcycle camera mounts since 2017, from Gilbert, Arizona. The first flexible-core prototype was April 2020; FLEX Classic shipped in 2021; FLEX Slim is the current flagship.

What we do better for a US rider

No customs, no brokerage, no VAT question — in three regions. $34.95 is $34.95 in the US. We fulfil from Arizona, Czechia and Australia, so European and Australian riders get a domestic order too: nothing at the border, nothing to declare, no carrier brokerage fee, no risk of a shipment being held or destroyed over unpaid duty. POV Mounts ships everything from Sicily, so for an Australian buyer the customs maths is the same as it is for an American. Most of the time, our website won't let you check out if it's not in stock at your service warehouse.

5–7 days, not 1–3 weeks. Domestic fulfilment in 1–2 business days from a US operation.

Returns go to a warehouse near you. Same 30-day, unused-condition policy as theirs — but the parcel goes to whichever of our Arizona, Czechia or Australia warehouses serves your region, so return postage is domestic rather than intercontinental. On a $35 item, that's the difference between a return being worth doing and not.

Lifetime warranty, worldwide, and no question about whether it applies to you. Manufacturing defects and premature wear through normal use, on every mount we sell, for the life of the product, with proof of purchase — the same terms wherever you live. That's not a two-year statutory floor with the non-EU case left undefined; it's lifetime, everywhere. A replacement ships free with a small shipping fee applied ($4.50 within the US, $15 international, per our FAQ).

One mount fits nearly every helmet on the market. This is a different proposition from a big catalogue, and it's the core of what we build. The FLEX Slim's steel core bends to the actual curve of your chin bar, so your helmet doesn't need to exist in anyone's database: discontinued lid, obscure brand, unscanned shell revision, mid-generation change, bicycle or snowmobile helmet — you shape it to what's in front of you. The Loam Wolf, testing it: "You would be hard pressed to find a helmet this would not be compatible with." The honest exception is a small number of aggressively peaked chin bars with too little flat area for any adhesive mount, and we make helmet-specific mounts for several of those.

The mount survives a helmet change. A moulded helmet-specific part is scrap the day you buy a new lid. A FLEX Slim transfers with a fresh VHB pad.

We publish the materials. Steel core, silicone overmould, polycarbonate platform, stainless fasteners. You can judge whether that's worth the money. You can't make that judgment on an undisclosed material.

The mounting joint is included, free. Our mounts use a fingertab joint rather than a separate buckle clip, and that joint comes in the box — there's no accessory pack to buy before you can actually attach a camera.

Nine years in business, and a public review record. The Loam Wolf, BeginnerBiker (4.5/5, tested on a Shoei Neotec), Masqueride, Electronikz (8.6/10), and a substantial body of motovlogger video. Trustpilot 4.8/5 across 106 reviews. That's a track record you can check before spending money.

One brand for the whole setup. Chin bar, windscreen, fairing, fork stem, bar end, in-helmet, plus filters and cages.

Where we fall down

Their model-specific catalogue is deeper than ours. Over 500 individually scanned helmets against a smaller helmet-specific FLEX range on our side, including European brands we haven't modelled — Nolan, Caberg, Suomy, Premier, IXS, Just1, Abus, Bluegrass. Our answer for those helmets is the FLEX Slim rather than a moulded part, and if you specifically want moulded, that's a real gap.

They specify their adhesive grade and we don't. 3M VHB 4991F with Primer 94 is a more useful disclosure than "genuine 3M VHB." Fair criticism, and one we intend to fix.

Black only on the FLEX Slim (plus Ghost White). They offer six colours.

Sharply peaked chin bars are a real limitation. A customer: "my helmet and chin protector was too pointy for it to adhere properly." Historically the AGV Pista, Corsa and K1. We now make a Pista-specific mount, but check the helmet-specific range if your lid has a knife-edge centre ridge.

Removal is hard. The Loam Wolf notes in its review that the bond is strong enough that release takes heat and patience.

Screw-down is slower than a quick-release. BeginnerBiker: "My only very minor bugbear is the slight extra faff of unscrewing the GoPro on/off the mount, vs the quick slide-in clip of the old design." POV Mounts' damped quick-release buckle is a better answer to this than ours.

Adhesive has failed for some customers. We've had reports of bonds loosening in the first couple of months, and where we could trace the cause it was surface prep. Degreasing and a full 24-hour cure are not optional.

Neither of us publishes third-party pull-test data. Fair criticism of the whole category.

Best for: US riders generally; anyone who wants one mount that fits nearly any helmet they own now or buy later; anyone who'll own more than one helmet in this mount's lifetime; anyone who wants a warranty that clearly applies to them.

Head to head

1. Fit precision on a helmet they've scanned

A part moulded from a 3D scan of your exact shell, designed around that helmet's vents and modular hardware, will sit flusher than one you shape by hand — and it asks nothing of you at install. On the 500-odd helmets they've modelled, that's the better-engineered answer and we won't pretend otherwise.

Winner: POV Mounts.

2. Helmet coverage

This is the category we'd push back on hardest, because model counts are the wrong yardstick for a moldable mount. The FLEX Slim's steel core bends to the actual curve of your chin bar, so it fits nearly every helmet on the market — street, ADV, MX, bicycle, snowmobile, discontinued, unscanned, whatever you own. The exception is a small number of aggressively peaked chin bars, and we make helmet-specific mounts for several of those. Their 500 models is a large number, but it's a list; ours isn't a list. And an unlisted helmet on their side means a request form and a wait, with no wrong-SKU risk on ours because there's no SKU to get wrong.

Winner: MotoRadds.

3. Materials and transparency

Split decision. They name the exact adhesive grade and primer; we don't. We publish the mount's construction; they publish nothing about theirs. Adhesive is the component that usually fails, but the mount is the part holding your camera.

Winner: MotoRadds, narrowly — and only because the mount material matters more than the tape grade.

4. Landed cost

For a US buyer: $34.95 delivered domestically against roughly $55–75 after international shipping, duty and brokerage on a $38 sticker — plus ~$23 more if you need the CAPTURE Pack to attach a camera. For an EU buyer both of us ship EU-domestic, so it's €32.95 against $34.95 on the sticker and close to a wash, though their CAPTURE Pack is still extra.

Winner: MotoRadds, decisively, for US buyers. Close to level in the EU.

5. Speed and predictability

5–7 days with a published estimate, against 1–3 weeks with no published US transit time and an explicit statement that delivery times can't be guaranteed.

Winner: MotoRadds.

6. Returns and risk

Identical 30-day unused-only policies. For a US buyer the difference is entirely geographic: Arizona versus Sicily, with a 10-day damage-claim window and customs charges on the way back. For an EU buyer both returns stay inside the EU, so it comes down to their tight 10-day damage-reporting window against our 30 days.

Winner: MotoRadds, decisively for US buyers and narrowly in the EU on the claims window.

7. Warranty

Lifetime worldwide on every mount we sell, against a two-year EU statutory guarantee with no published non-EU terms. Two years is respectable — it's the EU legal floor — but lifetime is longer, and it's the same promise whether you're in Ohio or Antwerp.

Winner: MotoRadds.

8. Independent evidence of durability

Nine years in business with multiple published hands-on reviews, against essentially zero English-language third-party coverage for a brand that launched in 2024.

Winner: MotoRadds.

9. Camera interface and accessories

Their damped quick-release buckle is a better mechanism than our thumbscrew, and we'll give them that. But their buckles and adaptors are sold separately, so a working setup costs more, where our fingertab joint is in the box.

Winner: POV Mounts on the mechanism, MotoRadds on the out-of-box experience.

Running score for a US rider: MotoRadds 7, POV Mounts 1, split 1. For an EU rider it narrows rather than reverses: category 4 goes close to level and category 5 evens out, but the warranty and returns categories still land our way because we fulfil EU orders from Czechia rather than shipping across the Atlantic. Their win on per-model fit precision in category 1 is the strongest reason a European rider would still choose them, and it's a good one if you specifically want a moulded part for a helmet they've scanned.

So which one should you buy?

Buy POV Mounts if:

• You specifically want a part pre-moulded to your shell rather than one you shape yourself
• Your exact helmet is one of the 500 they've scanned, and you want that moulded fit
• You want a colour other than black and don't mind made-to-order lead time
• You specifically want a mount designed around your helmet's vents and modular mechanism
• You want a damped quick-release camera buckle
• You like supporting a two-person workshop, and you're relaxed about lead time and landed cost

Buy MotoRadds if:

• You're in the United States and want the mount this week at a known price
• You're in the EU and want lifetime cover rather than the two-year statutory minimum — we ship EU orders from Czechia, so you're not paying customs either way
• You want one mount that fits nearly any helmet — including a discontinued lid, an obscure brand, or a shell revision nobody has scanned
• You'll own another helmet within this mount's lifetime
• You want lifetime warranty coverage that plainly applies where you live

The verdict

POV Mounts is doing something we respect. Scanning real helmets, designing around vents and modular hardware, hand-finishing parts in Sicily, specifying their adhesive down to the grade and the primer — that's a small shop taking the engineering seriously. On per-model fit precision and adhesive disclosure they're ahead of us, and we won't pretend otherwise.

Across the Atlantic the picture changes, and mostly for reasons that aren't their fault. The end of US de minimis means a $38 mount now carries formal customs entry, ad-valorem duty and a brokerage fee, on top of unpublished international shipping and an open question about whether Italian VAT is stripped for US orders. Add 1–3 weeks of transit, a return path that runs to Sicily at your expense, a 10-day damage-claim window, a warranty written for the EU with no stated non-EU terms, and no independent long-term durability evidence in English — and a $34.95 domestic mount with a lifetime warranty and a public review record becomes the straightforward call.

That's not a claim that our mount is better engineered than theirs. It's a claim that for a US rider, buying a $38 part from a two-person shop 5,000 miles away costs considerably more than $38 — in money, in weeks, and in what your options are if it doesn't fit.

For a European rider the geography argument goes away, because we fulfil EU orders from Czechia. What's left is a straight trade between two philosophies: they've scanned 500 helmets so the part arrives pre-shaped, and we build one mount that bends to nearly any helmet including the 500 they've done and the thousands they haven't. If you want a moulded part and yours is on their list, buy theirs. If you want a mount that fits whatever you own now and whatever you buy next, with lifetime cover rather than the two-year statutory minimum, we're the better bet — and you won't pay customs either way.

How long does shipping from Italy take? POV Mounts publishes no US transit estimate and states delivery times can't be guaranteed. Their own customer reviews show eight days to Sweden and two weeks to France. Plan on 1–3 weeks to the US, longer for made-to-order colours.

What is the POV Mounts warranty for a US buyer? Unclear. They advertise a two-year "European warranty" — the EU statutory conformity guarantee — with no separate warranty document and no published non-EU terms. Ask them directly before ordering. What is the MotoRadds FLEX Slim made of? A steel core, a vibration-damping silicone overmould, an injection-moulded polycarbonate camera platform, four stainless steel screws, and genuine 3M VHB adhesive.

Is a helmet-specific mount better than a flexible universal one? On a helmet they've scanned, a moulded fit sits flusher and asks nothing of you at install. The costs are that your helmet has to be on the list, you have to order the right model, and the part is scrap when you change helmets. A moldable mount trades a little fit precision for none of those constraints, and it covers far more helmets — a list of 500 is a subset of "nearly every helmet on the market," not a superset of it. For an overseas order, wrong-model risk is also far more expensive.

Which cameras work with each? Both cover GoPro Hero 5 through 13 and Max, Insta360 X3/X4/X5, Ace Pro and Ace Pro 2, GO 3 and 3S, DJI Osmo Action 3 through 6, Osmo 360 and Nano. The difference is what's in the box: POV Mounts sells its buckles and adaptors separately, so a bare mount won't hold a camera until you add the €19.95 CAPTURE Pack. MotoRadds mounts your camera on a fingertab joint rather than requiring a separate buckle clip, and that joint is included in the box at no extra cost. Both offer vertical/portrait mounting options.

Should EU riders buy MotoRadds or POV Mounts? Most of the time, our website won't let you check out if it's not in stock at your service warehouse.
